About the Artist

Artist Yehudith Samson

Biography

The eyes of Yehudith Samson behold a sublime beauty. She was born with positional nystagmus, a condition impairing the visual processing portion of the brain. Although she is inhibited physically, she is artistically gifted. Since early childhood, she has used her craft to explore the hidden side of the natural world. In her work, she uses representational, abstract, and expressionistic styles to convey the subtext present in all things.

Born in Washington D.C. and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel, Mrs. Samson earned her Bachelor of Fine Art at The School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She has been featured in various exhibitions in such locales as New York, Jersey City, Washington D.C., and San Francisco. She currently works from her home studio in Sacramento.

Artist Statement

The "Mystic Places" series is a collection of landscape paintings. They are an ode to the natural world and the human experience, subjects that are in constant change. A portrayal of the experience of reality should contain elements that convey a sense of movement, change, and the passing of time.

My portraits are structured around the eyes of the subject, which gaze out of the picture. The various brushstrokes, shapes, and colors create a feeling of a living moment, rather than a static snapshot frozen in time.

My Judaica paintings are rooted in my fascination with the shapes which make up the written Hebrew language. One character may have many meanings, and these multiple meanings relate to one another, creating levels and bridges by which the mind experiences truths which are unfixed and inconstant, yet eternal.
